Biography

Dr. Janessa M. Graves, PhD MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine in School of Medicine at University of Washington (UW). She is core faculty within the WWAMI Rural Health Research Center and the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (HIPRC) at UW. Dr. Graves is the Program Director for the Occupational Health Services Research Training Program with the UW Northwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety (NWCOHS) and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health.


Dr. Graves is a health services researcher with expertise in access to healthcare services among rural and underrepresented populations. Her work informs state and federal health policies to improve access to and quality of healthcare services for high-needs populations and will ultimately reduce health inequities in underserved communities. Dr. Graves actively leads several ongoing research projects, has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in medical and public health journals, and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Rural Health and Preventing Chronic Disease.


Dr. Graves completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (UW). She received her PhD in health services research and her MPH in environmental and occupational health from the UW School of Public Health and a BA in Environmental Biology from Columbia University.
